Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® – oh my!
The world of antiwrinkle injectable options is fast growing with new brands coming to the market each year.
While all neuromodulators function in typically the same manner, there are certain reasons medspas and injectors opt for one brand over another.
In today’s article, we will focus on Dysport® and its use in treating a variety of concern areas including moderate to severe frown lines. We’ll also look at what makes Dysport® stand apart from its competitors and why it’s a top choice at Luminescence Aesthetics.

What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is an injectable neuromodulator formulated from abobotulinumtoxinA. This toxin is in the same tox family as other wrinkle relaxers including Botox® and Xeomin®, so it works in much the same way.
Dysport® is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines (also known as frown lines or number 11’s).
Similar to other wrinkle relaxers, Dysport® may be used to treat:
- Other expression lines such as crow’s feet and forehead creases
- Diagonal and vertical wrinkles on the nose (bunny lines)
- Sagging of the corners of the mouth
- The appearance of a gummy smile
- Platysmal bands on the neck
- Masseter muscles of the jaw to help with TMJ pain or facial narrowing
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the armpits or palms
- Neck spasms and other muscle spasms
How is Dysport® Different?
Dysport® is different from other tox injections in the way it is formulated.
Dysport® is more diluted than Botox® and spreads faster, making it a great option for larger surface areas. Dysport® is also recommended for deeper, more severe wrinkles, although it treats fine lines and wrinkles in the same manner.
Some people have reported experience with Dysport® working quicker and lasting longer compared to other wrinkle relaxer injections. The caveat is that these outcomes will vary per person.
Generally, Dysport® will wear off gradually over a period of three to four months, so touch-up appointments are recommended for best results.
Dysport® Side Effects
The potential side effects of Dysport® are similar to those of other neuromodulators, with minor risk involved.
Per the manufacturer, the most common side effects of Dysport® include bruising at the injection site, upper respiratory infections, headaches, a sore throat, injection-site pain, eyelid swelling, and nausea.
As with other aesthetic treatments, it’s important to make sure you are choosing a qualified injector to avoid risk and ensure optimal results.
