Erase the Damage. Reveal the Difference.
What Is Aerolase® Era Elite?
Era Elite is an advanced ablative laser that gently vaporizes the top layer of skin, where visible damage like dark spots, fine lines, and rough texture lives.
What sets it apart? Unlike traditional CO2 lasers, it resurfaces the skin without excessive heat or trauma, minimizing discomfort and preserving surrounding tissue. It’s like hitting the reset button on your skin—with precision, control, and far less downtime than traditional ablative lasers.
How It Works
While most lasers chase pigment or veins beneath the surface, Era Elite goes after something else: water. That’s what lets it gently remove the damaged outer layer, so if issues like sunspots or texture live there, they’re gone in a single pass.
This is what we mean when we say “resurfacing.” We’re literally removing damaged skin and revealing a smoother, healthier layer underneath.

Ablative vs. Non-Ablative
Why It Matters for Your Skin
The word “laser” gets tossed around a lot in skincare, but not all lasers work the same way.
Non-ablative lasers (like the Aerolase® Neo) work beneath the skin’s surface. They target specific chromophores—like melanin and hemoglobin—to break down pigment, blood vessels, or even hair. The laser energy heats these targets just enough for your body to naturally flush them out over time. Think of them like a stain remover, gradually fading what’s underneath.
Ablative lasers like the Era Elite work more like a precise power wash. They target the water in your skin, vaporizing the outer layer on contact, taking visible damage with it.
So what’s the difference? One gently clears damage from within over time. The other erases it instantly at the surface.
The Power of Reverse
Why Combining Both Makes All The Difference
Think of your skin like a car you love. Aerolase Neo is like detailing the engine, fixing what you don’t see to correct what you do. Era Elite is like restoring the exterior, buffing out scratches, and polishing the surface so it looks brand new. That’s why our Reverse Treatment is so effective—it blends the best of both worlds in one single plan:
- Neo clears up pigment, redness, and inflammation from deeper layers.
- Era removes the damaged surface, smoothing out texture and tone.
Together? You get a full restoration—inside and out.

Er:YAG vs. CO₂: What’s the Difference?
Both are ablative lasers—they remove the outer layer of skin for dramatic results.
But there’s a key difference in how they treat your skin:
Er:YAG (Aerolase Era Elite)
Ultra-fast microsecond pulses |
Minimal heat to surrounding tissue |
Faster healing, less downtime |
Remarkably comfortable experience |
Safer for skin of color |
CO₂ Lasers (e.g. CoolPeel)
Slower, longer-duration pulses |
More residual thermal damage |
Longer recovery time |
Can be more intense or uncomfortable |
Higher risk of post-treatment pigment changes |
💡 Why it matters:
Er:YAG gives you smoother, clearer skin—with minimal downtime and a treatment that feels surprisingly easy. That’s why we use it.
Treatment Options with Aerolase Era
Superficial Era Peel
Think of this as your quick refresh. This gentle laser peel targets the very top layer of skin to brighten your complexion and improve tone—all with minimal downtime.
Best for: Large pores, dull tone, mild texture issues

Medium Depth
Need a little more than a touch-up? This option targets early signs of aging and sun damage, gently removing the outer skin layers for a refreshed look.
Best for: Minimal to moderate sun damage and fine lines.

Deep Depth
Deep Depth Ablation is our go-to for the major, more stubborn skin concerns, with results comparable to 4–8 fractional sessions in just one treatment.
Best for: Deep wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, benign lesions, skin tags

What to Expect
Before Your Treatment
We’ll start with a consultation, where we’ll assess your skin and discuss your goals to determine the ideal treatment depth—superficial, medium, or deep. Depending on your concerns, we may recommend a Reverse treatment: a two-step approach that combines Aerolase Neo and Era Elite for full-spectrum skin rejuvenation.
- Aerolase Neo is a non-ablative laser used in a series of 5 sessions to reduce pigmentation, redness, and visible veins, while also stimulating collagen beneath the surface.
- After that, we follow with 1–2 Era Elite sessions to resurface the skin, clear away damaged outer layers, and reveal the smooth, radiant skin underneath.
This combination works on multiple levels of your skin—clearing pigment and inflammation below, and resurfacing texture and tone above.
During Your Treatment
Most patients describe the experience as warm and very tolerable. Whether you’re receiving Era on its own or as part of the Reverse treatment plan, we’ll ensure the laser precisely targets only the necessary skin layers. Most sessions take less than an hour, depending on the area and depth being treated.
Recovery & Downtime
Healing time depends on how deep we go:
- Superficial: Mild downtime lasting 1–3 days. Skin is red the first day, pink the second, and lightly peeling by day three, revealing a fresh glow.
- Medium: About 2 days of redness, followed by a couple of days of mild peeling
- Deep: Redness may last up to 3 weeks, but occurs just once, not after each procedure. Most activities can continue with proper sun protection.

FAQs
How many Aeolase Era sessions will I need?
It depends on your treatment depth and skin goals.
- For superficial-depth “Era Peel” treatments: 1–2 sessions per year can keep your skin smooth, refreshed, and glowing.
- For medium and deep resurfacing: Most patients only need one treatment every 1–2 years to maintain results.
Your provider will help you create a personalized treatment plan based on your skin’s needs.
Who’s a good candidate for Er:YAG laser?
Anyone looking to address signs of aging, scarring, or pigmentation, especially those who want fewer treatments with more dramatic results.
How is Er.YAG laser different from other lasers?
Unlike traditional CO₂ lasers (including “CoolPeel”), which can cause more thermal damage to surrounding tissue, the Er:YAG laser used in Era Elite delivers ultra-fast microsecond pulses that vaporize skin with extreme precision and minimal residual heat. That means:
- Less risk of prolonged redness or pigmentation
- Shorter recovery times
- A more comfortable treatment experience overall
While both CO₂ and Erbium lasers are considered ablative (meaning they remove surface layers of skin), Era Elite’s Erbium wavelength is gentler on the skin, making it a preferred option for patients who want noticeable results without extended downtime.
Are the results permanent?
While results are long-lasting, natural aging continues. A solid skincare routine and occasional touch-ups help extend your glow.
Are there risks?
The most common side effects are temporary redness or swelling. PIH, hypopigmentation, or infection are rare and minimized by expert care and proper aftercare.
When will I see results?
Expect visible changes within days. Full improvement continues over several weeks as collagen rebuilds beneath the surface.
