A Beginner’s Guide To Tweakments: Xeomin

While there are many good things about aging—such as gaining wisdom and experience—there are also some downsides that come with getting older.

Who enjoys getting wrinkles, sagging skin and droopy eyelids, right?

If you haven’t got wrinkles, well, good for you. If you’ve got them and would like to do something about them -but aren’t willing to go under the knife or do anything more invasive -we’ve got just the thing for you.

It’s called Xeomin, and it’s one of the most popular wrinkle relaxants available today.

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a non-invasive, FDA approved wrinkle relaxant. It’s especially great for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines – you know, those pesky “11” lines you get between the eyebrows when you frown or squint?

How does it work? Thanks to Botulinum toxin type A as an active ingredient, Xeomin relaxes the facial muscles in the treated area, smoothing out existing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.

And as with most wrinkle relaxants, it’s administered via an injection using a fine needle into the target area.

How is Xeomin Different from Botox?

Botox and Dysport contain an accessory protein (usually egg or lactose) to carry the toxin. Over time, the body has the ability to build up antibodies, causing the results of Botox or Dysport to diminished after continuous use.

XEOMIN does NOT contain accessory proteins, making it a “pure” version of botulinum toxin and reducing the risk of allergic reaction or resistance!

Which Areas Can Be Treated With Xeomin?

As mentioned earlier, Xeomin works especially well for frown lines – but did you know that it can also be injected into the following areas?

  • Crow’s feet (tiny wrinkles radiating around the edges of your eyes)
  • Lip lines (wrinkles near the top lip)
  • Forehead lines and frown lines (between the eyebrows)

What to Expect from Your Xeomin Treatment

Xeomin injections aren’t usually painful, though you may feel a prick in the treated area. Although rare, you may also experience redness, swelling and bruising around these areas as well, but these should subside within days after your treatment.

Your skin may feel a little numb or tingly shortly after the injection as well, but this is normal and should go away within an hour afterwards. Some patients may also experience a temporary itching and burning sensation at the injection site, but these aren’t so common and if they do occur, also subside within a few days after the treatment.

Results: How Long Do They Last?

Like other brands of wrinkle relaxers, you can see the initial results from a Xeomin injection usually around three to four days after the injection. And as for the full effects? They usually emerge within a week.

As for its lasting power, the effects of Xeomin can last up to four months, but this varies per patient depending on how quickly their bodies can metabolize the substance.

While Xeomin’s results aren’t permanent, you can get follow-up treatments to maintain the results you want.

And speaking of maintaining the results you want…

Aftercare

It is important to follow the proper aftercare guidelines to ensure the best results for your Xeomin injections:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, as well as tanning beds for at least 24 hours. If you can’t avoid the sun entirely, slap on some sunblock (SPF 50 would be great) and a hat before you go outdoors.
  • Steer clear of alcohol consumption for 24 hours after your Xeomin injection. Alcohol tends to aggravate bruising and swelling.
  • With your providers permission, don’t take any aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours after your procedure. Like alcohol, these medications may increase your risk of bruising or swelling.
