Microneedling 101

Microneedling is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes tiny needles to penetrate the skin’s surface and kickstart your body’s natural wound-healing process, thus stimulating collagen production.

This process thus encourages cell turnover, resulting in a smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking appearance for the skin.

Microneedling is a great choice for those looking to treat a variety of skin concerns including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne and blackheads

Microneedling Tips

So how can you make sure you’re getting the most out of your microneedling session?

Microneedling as a standalone treatment provides great results, but there are a few things you can do (and other treatments you can add!) to ensure your results go from great to outstanding.

  1. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications – Following your microneedling session, an active inflammatory system is key to aiding your skin’s rejuvenation. Try to avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen and Advil at least 3 days before and after your appointment.
  2. Keep your skin hydrated – During the healing process, it is vital to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. This means drinking enough water and applying a good moisturizer to your skin day and night per treatment instructions.
  3. Avoid direct, prolonged exposure to sunlight or UV Rays – After your microneedling session and as your skin heals, it’s normal for it to be extra sensitive. During this time, make sure to avoid exposure to UV Rays and to always wear sunscreen if you must venture outside. This minimizes the risk of irritation, which can compromise your results.
  4. Avoid Wearing Makeup – On the day of your microneedling session, it is best to show up to your appointment with clean, make-up-free skin. In the days following your treatment, you should also avoid wearing makeup and applying other topical treatments that might irritate your already sensitive skin.
  5. Consider a Microneedling with PRF Treatment – When combining microneedling with a Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatment, the healing process is significantly reduced with less swelling and redness. PRF is also a great way to speed up the healing process and encourage the formation of new collagen and elastin, thus providing even more dramatic results.
  6. For even better results, consider a Microneedling with Exosomes Treatment – Exosomes can be added to Microneedling treatments! Over a few weeks the dermal fibroblast exosomes will regenerate the connective tissue, induce collagen production, and increase epidermal thickness, giving your skin a much tighter and firmer appearance. The dermal fibroblast exosomes will also continue to regenerate your skin cells for up to 6 months!
